Vote for Nelson Almeida

There is one candidate for Seekonk Board of Selectmen who has been attending all the Wednesday night selectmen meetings. He has accepted every invitation extended by any group of voters who wants to hear his views on important topics even though his opponent rarely attends. He has attended and offered opinions at other committee meetings such as the planning board and the zoning board of appeals.

Do you want an interested, dedicated and dependable person to be your next selectman? One who is "his own man" with no ties to the some of the present members of the Board of Selectmen.

Then cast your vote on Sept. 24 for Nelson Almeida.

"His Own Man" I don't think so. Wake up Seekonk and be very careful on who you elect. The Old Boys Club of Seekonk and SCC have an agenda. By the way are you still with the RTC? IMO, you should be removed.

Candidates running, especially for a selectmen seat should not accept funds from a local business. You are correct. Be very careful on who you elect. Thank you

Are you really your own man? Do you not have ties to the former BOS? Why does Don Kinniburgh want you on the BOS so bad? Would you be his puppet if elected?

I am my own man Paul. I don't have current BOS members putting out signs nor writing articles on my behalf nor giving me donations towards my campaign. You must have the wrong puppet in question. Thank you

Nelson, Why do you ride your bike when going door to door? car issues? license issues? registration issues? Also what do you really do for a living? You've stated that you are self employed. What is the name of your business?

I'm amused. My supporters are not questioning my openant as much as my openants are questioning me. Interesting. To answer your question on riding my bike is that I enjoy riding bike. I'm part of the community. I'm not sticking out like a typical politician dressed up looking for votes. For example. I've been attending the BOS meetings for over a year now. I haven't showed up on the past 2 just to show involvement. Thank you

I know this is petty, Nelson, but the correct spelling for opponent is 'opponent', not openant. The first time I read it, I didn't know what the heck you were talking about.

Good luck on Monday. Glad to see you standing up for yourself a bit more often. The polite, Mr. NiceGuy doesn't always work.

If luck isn't with you on Monday, remember there is another BOS election in April (quite sure, at least). Keep the signs handy.

The reason people are questioning you is that your campaign style is questionable.
And, BTW, you didn't completely answer clyesdale.
Here is another one. I think you reside in Greenbriar. Have you lived there ever since you moved to Seekonk 5 years ago? Also, do you own or do you rent?

This is such a compliment. My openants supporters are asking me all these questions. Thank you. I believe the questions that should be asked is as follows. Did both candidates appear at all 3 debates?? Have both candidates been attending the selectmen meetings with consistency?? Are both candidates showing up at the senior center to show there support?? Did both candidates talk in behalf of the senior center at our last town meeting?? Did both the candidates accept money from a local business?? Did both candidates show up at the planning board meeting to speak out for assistant living and nursing home?? I'm being asked why I'm riding a bike?? I'm being asked where I live and if I own?? The best part is being questioned about my age (youth). Well yes I'm young. So what!! Ive got the common sense, respect, dedication and the INDEPENDENT VOICE our residents need on the BOS. Thank you

Nelson: We know the answers to all those questions. You've told us...and told us...and told us.
I don't think anyone has questioned your youth. I have questioned your maturity. Youth is no problem for me. I think the Chairman of the School Committee, Mitch Viera, is a decade younger than you. I think David Quinn may be younger than you as well. In many respects, their position is much more demanding than that of a Selectman.
So it might be best not to play the victim and waste your time by playing the "age card".

Nelson, I question if you have the smarts for the job? Do you proof read before you submit? Do you have a high school diploma?

Just an observation of irony, "proofread" is one word. There are only a few days left until Election Day, let's try to make it a civil few days—for everybody. The candidates have received a questionnaire. Look for their answers Sunday morning on Patch. Also, make sure to vote on Monday. Some observers are predicting 5% voter turnout—or worse. Prove them wrong.

Don: I would love to know who your ghost writer is. This truly is not your work. By the way, you knew my deceased husband as he was a Veteran and a Member of the Legion. If you can figure out who I am, I will be more than happy to reveal myself. You all will be very surprised. Sure do miss Arthur Foulkes - Rest in peace my friend.

Well we all know the ghost writer isn't Mr. Buckley's openant.

lol, clyde. Thank goodness for Nelson he isn't a write-in candidate, otherwise he wouldn't be able to vote for himself.

Jonathan: Cannot wait to review the candidates reply to the questionnaire on Sunday's Patch. The Independent Voice of Paul Buckley will be a pleasure to read. But will that be the same of Nelson Almeida? I don't think so. Right now, there is one question in which Mr. Almeida seems to be constantly avoiding. What is the Name and Address of his self-employed Business? Thank you

People in Seekonk wonder why more residents don't get involved in local government? It is a nasty business as evidenced here. Good luck to both candidates - to the victor go the spoils!

The guys that run for the BOS in Seekonk all know what they are getting into. All of them love a good fight, so don't feel bad for any of them.

In small towns, the elections often go to the long-time resident or the son/daughter of long-time residents. Everyone knows the family. Nelson Almeida is very new to Seekonk, not much is known about him except what he tells us. He probably rents which means after a year he could easily move out and we are left with another special election. It's just a wary thing. I'm sure Attleboroeans and all other small towns throughout the land do the same thing.

What it boils down to, is Mr Almeida a tax paying citizen or not, is his business legit or not?

Many municipalities are reluctant to hand over the key to the city to someone they know so little of. The town was quick to appoint him to one of the town's boards (Conservation? Recreation?), but the BOS is another kettle of fish.

That being said, the election is this Monday and we will be happy with whoever the majority of voters decide on. At least for a while.

What is the business. Is it in Seekonk? Run from his house? If it is there should be a DBA on file at the town hall. Does any body know anything about what kind of business he has or where it is located?

A bunch of guys who love a good fight - is that who we want at the helm of Seekonk? Wasting their energy strutting around trying to get their own way? I'd love to see more diversity and a more conciliatory tone.

I agree and I will vote for any girl that runs against Cavaco.

I do want to thank Nelson for running. Regardless of the outcome he committed himself to contributing to his community in a position that takes a lot of time out of a persons life. Like the associates of Mr. Buckley, my vote will be cast not for who knows the candidate or endorses the candidate, but will solely be based on who I feel can perform the best on the BOS.

You have to separate all of the noise out there and look at the candidate on their own. Who will do the right thing? Who will be fiscally responsible and keep my taxes manageable? Who can bring a solid idea that will better our community to the table?

These are the things I will consider Monday before I cast my vote.
