Nelson Almeida for Seekonk Selectmen Building Relationships

To all residents of Seekonk:

I'm running for Town Selectmen to be your independent voice on the board. I am not part of the bullying problem. I do not have selectmen knocking on doors and putting out signs for me. I do not have selectmen writing articles on my behalf in local papers.

I show up at our Selectmen meetings on time and speak out at our town meetings. What we need is a neutral/independent voice on the board that is not gonna be persuaded by others and work for our residents in a fair and consistent manner.

I have not declined debates. Declining debates is a sign of someone who will not be able to work with or respect everyone. It is very important to our residents that they know who they are voting for. I encourage our residents to watch the several TV9 programs that I've been on—Concerned Citizens Forum, TV9 debate, Inside Seekonk and my own TV9 program that I did most recently.

With me, our residents will get a true representation on the board and in our town. I will be involved in our town activities and be in our neighborhoods not just when it's time for elections.

I thank you in advance for coming out and voting on Sept. 24 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Seekonk High School. It is very important to me and our community.

If residents would like to get together at a place or home to discuss issues of concern, I'm more then willing to attend. Please contact me directly at Nelsonalmeida@comcast.net. If residents would like to ask questions pertaining to our town, please feel free to do so and I will try my best to answer your questions.

Thank you,
Nelson Almeida

Thank You Nelson for taking on this challenge of representing an independent voice in our town. Your honorable character was established with me prior to you running for office. The nature of a man is revealed when no one is looking and you have demonstrated the excellent qualities that I would want in my town on the Board of Selectmen.

Good morning, Nelson...

In yesterday's Sun Chronicle, there was an article by Bill Gouveia about the Seekonk BOS relative to the appointment of a selectman to the Housing Authority.
In part, Gouveia said this:

"The mistake selectmen have made here is not just appointing their own to fill important government roles. Their gravest error is showing disrespect to the citizens they represent. They continue to keep talking when they should be listening. They are spending considerable time and effort to deny ordinary citizens an active role in government, rather than aggressively recruitiing them for public service."

How do you feel about selectmen holding positions on other boards?

Good morning emcee. I spoke on this very topic at our last town meeting. Selectmen need to be on one board only. You cannot do your job sitting on multiple jobs. It's embarrassing to our residents how they are being disrespected. The residents voted against it. Hear our voices.

Nelson, I am still struggling with the whole respect platform, while you continuously go negative against your opponent. I am trying to give you the benefit of the doubt and really am interested in any substance you can bring to the BOS.

I posed this same question to Mr. Buckley;

What is your stance on spending free cash during the fall town meeting, prior to the various town departments being able to establish their budgets for the spring town meeting?

Mr. Abbott there is no struggling on figuring out my respect platform. I spoke on my behalf only. Not once I mentioned my openant. Now if you feel my opponent fits the shoe well that's your opinion and you mite not be alone. As for free cash being spent at fall meetings after budgets are approved question. This is how I feel. I feel there is a need to spend free cash in certain dept's due to items that mite be overlooked. For example at the last fall town meeting some free cash went to the school dept for hearing impaired equipment to better help our kids. So as long as the free cash is being spent correctly I find it ok. Thank you

Nelson: Do you think it's fair for departments to be requesting funds at the Fall Town Meeting outside the town's annual budget process and beyond the department limits approved by the voters at the Annual Town Meeting in the spring? Do you think it's fair to ask the Finance Committee, whose role is spelled out in the Town Charter, to have to consider individual department requests in the fall outside the budget process described in the Charter?

Nelson- "I have not declined debates. Declining debates is a sign of someone who will not be able to work with or respect everyone."

Then who are you referring to?

Thank you for the answer about free cash. Fiscal management is a key component of being a good leader. The example you provided was an important item, but in my opinion it could have waited for the regular town meeting. I would hope that you consider spending free cash only in emergency situations during the fall town meeting, should you be elected.

Mr.Abbott just talking about myself again. I attended all 3 debates I was invited to on my last campaign and have been invited to 3 on this campaign which I intend to attend all of them. Should I be elected I will most certaintly treat free cash of great care and thought on the use of it. Thank you

Hi ana. I'm glad you joined us on patch today. It's good that everyone knows what's going on. Sorry that my spelling isn't perfect. As you should know that nobody is perfect. I'd vote for an honest candidate and not be too worried about spelling errors. Thank you
