Yesterday, I went on a gnarly (I'm dating myself with that term, and I got some odd looks from the kids) bus ride into Boston's Museum of Fine Arts for Hurley Middle School's  sixth-grade field trip. My son actually wanted me to chaperone, and I was happy to oblige.

It was an hour-long ride into Boston, and the kids were pumped. I was half asleep thanks to a lack of proper caffeinated motivation. However, I was in awe of these kids. They were excited, and my boy Frankie was lucky enough to sit with me.

The buzz from the red and yellow team of the middle school's sixth-grade class was set off in a few different directions when "Bette Davis Eyes"  began the musical trip back in time. It reminded me of the mix tapes I used to make. Between the music, and the laughter, and Christmas songs (sung by the girls in the back of the bus), yes Christmas songs, it was a very loud trip to Boston, yet they were all excited and I was enjoying my time with my oldest child.

Once we arrived at the museum, my group was lined up behind this mother duck like little ducklings. What good ducklings they were too! We met up with our tour guide and took a trip through Egyptian culture and history. It was fascinating learning about that and the process of mummification. Eek, Mummies! There were lots of artifacts and even a mummy's head (found in an excavation with no body years ago). Apparently, there were tomb robbers and they would just wanted the body for the jewels that were wrapped in the coverings.  

Our tour guide was very good with the kids and impressed at their knowledge and good behavior. After she ended our tour, we had a short time to look at paintings. Then I had to get those ducklings of mine back to the meeting place for the bus.

The ride home was much less noisy, and tiredness replaced the earlier excitement. It was a great day for a museum trip and I thank the teachers for having me as a chaperone. Also, a special thank you to the children in my group, you were all awesome!

Hmmm, I wonder when Aitken  is going to do a field trip with the second-graders? Cuz I'll be the first to sign up for chaperoning! Peace and out ...
