Ze-gen Says Goodbye to the 'Boro
Ze-gen Chief Operating Officer David Robertson has announced it will no longer consider Attleboro as place to build a waste-to-energy plant.
Ze-gen's Chief Operating Officer David Robertson said today that the company no longer has plans to build in Attleboro.
Robertson said the company is "disappointed" and believes Attleboro was a great location for its plant, but it is now considering other markets.
More to come.

That's a shame. Attleboro could have used the jobs and tax revenue.

I'm sorry to see that we won't be getting the 20 jobs - most of which would not have been Attleboro residents anyway, nor the tax revenue. But I'm glad that I will not have to worry about my children getting leukemia, or my friends cancer, or our environment polluted.....that's a trade off I'll take. The right company will come along. They will provide better jobs that will benefit our city greatly.

I would hope a majority of Attleboro feel the same way Kendelle.
I certainly do. We get more than our share of pollutants from states west of us...gweez, thats pretty much the whole country!

Ray, I definitely agree with you...but the fact remains that there would have been at the maximum 20 jobs and more likely 2 or 3...AND according to Mass General Law the city would not have been able to tax this entity as it would have been generating electricity. So even had Ze-Gen chosen to stay we probably would not have seen our residents get any jobs nor would it have added to our tax coffers.

This is a huge relief. When a group of concerned citizens get together to voice their concerns, amazing things happen. This is a great victory for the health of our citizens and our environment. Thank God!

I agree 100% as I noted in Kendelle's reply. How about that asphalt proposed plnt in N.attleboro? Is that still in approval stages.
That must be stopped also.

Although Ze-gen has withdrawn its application to build a gasification plant in Attleboro, our work is not done yet. On June 7 we will request that the Attleboro City Council amend our local zoning laws to permanently prevent a gasification plant from locating here in the future. Please join us at the City Council meeting at Attleboro City Hall on Tuesday, June 7, at 7:00 pm. More information at http://greenattleboro.org
