Would You Miss Saturday Mail Delivery?
A proposal would end Saturday first-class mail delivery.
The Postal Service handles more than 44 percent of the world's mail volume — delivering more mail to more addresses and to a larger geographic area than any other postal administration in the world.

The U.S. Postal Service is reportedly announcing on Wednesday that it will stop Saturday first-class mail delivery by Aug. 1, reported CBS News.
Mail personnel have delivered mail on Saturdays for 150 years, but the plan is to end regular mail service, while maintaining Saturday delivery for packages and express mail, said CBS News.
The move is the latest attempt by the cash-strapped federal department to save money. It has already cut employees and service, but still reportedly lost $16 billion last year.

No but why don't they take Monday's off instead. This way if Monday is a holiday we don't go three days without mail.

My mail carrier only shows up when he feels like it as it is so I don't think it will hurt me.

Seems odd that they will still send their trucks out to deliver packages, and their post offices will remain open for business on Saturdays....
Personally, I have no preference. Whatever works for the postal service will work for me.
"The postal service's announcement, planned for about 10 a.m. EST, is expected to say that packages, mail-order medicine, and express mail will continue to be delivered on Saturday, but not letters, bills, cards, and catalogs. Post offices which are now open on Saturdays will continue to be open on Saturdays."

Seems like a good solution to me. I actually think that regular mail delivery 3 times a week would be sufficient, as long as express delivery is available as needed. The vast majority of mail is not highly time-sensitive.

The reason the USPS is in trouble is that congress (in a late-night lame duck session) required them to PRE-fund their retirement plan 75 years in advance and gave them only a few years to do it. If it wasn’t for that obligation they would currently have a 1.5 BILLION dollar surplus. It’s also important to note that the USPS is listed in the US Constitution, but the USPS takes NO tax dollars. Everything they do is covered through the sales of their stamps and other services.
As for those that don’t use USPS, many people – including businesses - still utilize the mail system for their work and by eliminating Saturday services, many of them will see significant loss of revenue. As for a comment that, “as long as express delivery is available as needed,” forgive me but if the office is closed, how are they going to get the item to you? It would cost more to open everything up to send you that one package then it would to have the office open for everyone.

Absolutely YES, I would miss it. I'll miss normal light bulbs even more. thanks to government morons. Plainly, government is FAR too BIG now.
