Where Were You on September 11, 2001?
Do you remember the exact place you were on the morning of 9/11?
While the nation commemorates the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, many will reflect on the thousands of lives that were impacted.
Where were you when you heard the tragic news of the terrorist attacks on America on September 11, 2001?
What do you remember most about that day? And how have the events of that day impacted your life?

I was at Brennan with my class of 5th graders. Several worried parents came in and took their children out of school. I did not tell the kids what was happening. We did not discuss what at happened until the next day. I did not show any photos or video, most of the class had seen it at home. Luckily for the kids this was an unreal rather abstract event, only a few of them recognized the enormity of the horror of what had happened 3 hours away. I answered questions about the event for weeks after, mostly dealing with the children's safety. Many people criticized the school for not showing the event to the older students as it happened. For me, it was better to gather facts the night of the event and have real information to share with the class the next day. Since the event I have included the events of 9-11 as part of my social studies curriculum.
