Vice President's Son Campaigns for Kennedy
Democratic congressional candidate Joe Kennedy III celebrates his 32nd birthday in Attleboro speaking about support for military veterans.
Republican congressional candidate Sean Bielat has military experience, but the son of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden told an audience in South Attleboro on Thursday that Bielat's Democratic opponent Joe Kennedy III was the best person to represent veterans in Washington.
After spending the day in New Hampshire campaiging for his father and President Barack Obama, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden came to the American Legion Post 312 in South Attleboro for the nighttime event called "Veterans for Joe Kennedy." Kennedy is running against Bielat for the seat in the U.S. House representing Massachusett's 4th District, which includes Attleboro and Seekonk.
Biden, who served in Iraq from 2008 to 2009 as a member of the Delaware Army National Guard's Judge Advocate General's Corps, said the Republicans running for the White House and the 4th Congressional District seat are "patriotic" and "honorable, decent men," who have "a different set of values" from the Democrats in those contests.
He claimed a federal budget proposed earlier this year by vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan would cut the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' annual budget by $11 billion, 85 percent of which goes to medical care.
"We have a very, very stark choice to make in this election, in this congressional district … and nationally with Joe Kennedy and Barack Obama," Biden said.
Kennedy, who was celebrating his 32nd birthday, made various promises on what he would do for veterans if elected.
"I will fight to make sure that those returning vets have the employment they have fought for and deserve when they come home, that when they return home, those veterans will not have to wait months or even years to get the benefits they have earned and deserved, that our ... country makes the investments we need in order to address the wounds of war—both physical and unseen," the candidate said.
Kennedy said he would also make sure female veterans "get equal levels of benefits, care and respect as well."
Biden and Kennedy were introduced by state Sen. James Vallee (D-Franklin), who is a lieutenant colonel in the Army National Guard. Vallee said there would be no better friend for veterans in Washington than Kennedy.
"Joe has been an incredibly thoughtful and hard-working candidate," Vallee said. "He has earned the right to be our congressman. Not only has Joe been right on the issues, Joe has shown that he understands this district … and he'll be a great advocate for us in D.C., particularly on veterans issues."

"Republican ... Sean Bielat has military experience, but the son of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden told an audience ... Joe Kennedy III was the best person to represent veterans in Washington."
Sigh.
Vote for the real thing, vote in Sean Bielat to the 4th Congressional seat.

"He has earned the right to be our congressman" Would this be a birthright?
I hope people wake up soon. This IS how the political class thinks.

Amy, if you want the United States Government to stay out of your life, you better move to another planet, and they will still look for you to pay back taxes.

You don't have to serve in the military to serve your country and get a perspective on what a great country we have.
Joe Kennedy served in the Peace Corps and didn't ask for any privilages due to his station in life. How many amoung us have done that? I admire Sean Bielat for his service and accomplishments, but he is a Republican. He voice of Massachusetts moderation will get lost within the ever increasing "my way or the highway" Republican contingent in the House of Representatives.
Sean, you are in the wrong party. You do not belong as a ReTHUGlican.

Don't forget the Democrats are doing the same thing. They have the same ideology, it just does not seem like that because they have Mr. President on their side.

People find different ways to serve their country. There may be no American who provided greater service to this country in the last century than Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He didn't serve in the military. Instead, he led a nonviolent movement for civil rights based on the love ethic of Jesus and the methods of Gandhi. Those who participated in that movement were beaten, jailed, and sometimes killed, displaying as much courage as soldiers do, but refusing to retaliate for the violence they encountered. The alternative to Dr. King was a bloody uprising or racial war a century after the Civil War. Those active in the civil rights struggle didn't receive pay checks or medical or other benefits from the government. But they served the country nevertheless. I'd match the service of Rep. John Lewis of Atlanta, arrested 26 times during the civil rights movement and beaten bloody in Selma, Alabama with that of Sen. John McCain, who served in Vietnam and was a prisoner of war. Both displayed courage and dedication to the ideals of this country.

Can we agree two things?
1) Joe ain't no Martin Luther King
2) Sean ain't no John Mccain

Stop the presses, served in the Peace Corps. Wow, didn't ask for privilage due to his station in life! Did he think he was that special so he had to ask? Has he ever had a real job?

Joe Kennedy III has never held a real job; however, the Kennedy's think that they are entitled to a congressional seat because of their family name. Joe Kennedy III hasn't even lived in the district long enough to understand the district's needs. Sean Bielat has lived in the district for many years, he understands the needs of the people who live here and he has real job/business experience.

Hi Richard: Why is an assistant district attorney not a job?

I'm thinking he probably didn't stand in line for the job of assistant district attorney give his stature in life and everything. :) You really can't wonder why people feel that way about him, can you?

I am sure he applied for the position, interviewed, made the first cut, Interviewed again and was asked to submit references, which were I am sure as follows:
1. Edward M. Kennedy
2. William J. Clinton
3. Bill Maher
I am sure the references were just a formality and he won the job on his qualifications alone.
Don't anyone jump in and say Teddy was not alive when he took the job, being dead never stopped a Democrat from supporting and or voting for someone.

The comment was that he "has never had a real job." Whether he "stood in line" for the job is a different matter.

I wasn't aware that he was an assistant district attorney. I thought that he had served in an internship in the district attorney's office, my mistake on that part; however, he has no real private sector business experience. He only knows and supports big government.

The question is though, did Joe Kennedy III become an Assistant District Attorney because of his family name?? If his last name wasn't Kennedy, I doubt that he would have the job of Assistant District Attorney at this stage of his life.

Beau Biden thinks Joe Kennedy III is the best person to represent veterans in Washington?? Joe Kennedy has never served in the Armed Forces and he knows nothing about veterans services and what our current and former and retired members of the military are going through. Sean Bielat who currently serves in the U.S Marine Reserves as a Major is the right person to represent veterans in Washington.

This Kennedy kid is nothing. He is nothing but a name. Everyone knows it; even the Dems. They spend all their time defending his paper thin resume, but what has he done with his life. Bielat called it in their debate - Joe, you're a nice guy buy you have 2.5 years of work experience. Joe said "I'm proud of my service." Good, Joe, and you should be, but don't kid people by saying you're ready to go to Congress when since day one you've been told what to say, where to go and how to act, day in day out. You are ANYTHING BUT READY.
Everyone says he isn't running on his name but then they say when defending him his family has done so much for Massachusetts. Which one is it? Is he or is he not running on his name?
It was 4 months before Joe even had an issues tab on his website; yet he raised over $1 million in those 4 months. How? Oh... yes, he is a Kennedy so we know what we are getting... but don't say he is running on his name.
Consider this. Assume that Kennedy wasn't in the race. Now if Mitt Romney's son moved into this district for the sole purpose of running for Congress, Dems would be up in arms. They would say he is a carpetbagger. They would say go home. They would say we have enough of our own good residents who are from this district who will better represent this district. Yet, the Dems aren't saying that.
Let's for the sake of argument say that Kennedy wasn't in the race at all. Their first attack on Bielat would be that he is a carpetbagger.

If Bielat is going to have any chance to win this thing, he had better start getting a better ground game than he has had. We never see anything about him in Attleboro. Just a few yard signs. He doesn't even have an office here. I want him to win but really, he needs to do more to win against the political machine known as Kennedy.
