Attleboro Fire Department Battles Brush Fire

In freezing temperatures, the Attleboro Fire Department battled a fire at sunset Sunday.

Around sunset Sunday evening, Attleboro Fire Department went to the area of the water treatment plant on Pond St. North to investigate a brush fire.

Upon arrival, they found a pile of brush, most of it from Hurricane Irene that was approximately 400 feet long by two stories high and 50-60 feet deep with a deep seated fire burning.

Since there is no water supply in the yard, and the closest hydrant was approximately three quarters of a mile away, tanker shuttles with drop tanks were utilized.

Attleboro doesn't have any tankers, so they were special called from Plainville, Rehoboth and Raynham.

The air temperature was in the low teens and the wind chill was at or below zero.
