Top Attleboro Crash Site of 2012: Washington/May Intersection

There were 24 motor vehicle crashes at the intersection.

 

More motor vehicle crashes took place in 2012 at the intersection of Washington and May streets that at any other location in Attleboro, according to a report from the police department's crime analyst.

Twenty-four crashes took place at the intersection, which has a strip mall featuring Uno Chicago Grill on one corner and Northeast Jewelers on the opposite corner. The two other corners are vacant.

The top crash address was 287 Washington St., the location of the mall off Highland Avenue. There were 21 crashes at the address. Washington/Highland was also second on the intersection list.

There were 1,709 reported crashes in 2012. Three were fatal and 1,294 caused property damage. Three were classified as "hit and run injury," and there were 215 hit and runs in total. Five involved motorcycle injuries, and there were 189 total motor vehicle injuries.

The three fatal crashes were:

  • Jan. 28 - Victor Kleinberger, 65, of Somerset was struck by a car while crossing the street at 1059 Washington St. The driver was not cited.
  • Feb. 21 - Edward Marien, 48, of North Attleboro was riding his bicycle and struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Bank and Park streets. The driver was not cited.
  • Sept. 20 - Kaisha Guerrini, 24, of North Attleboro was killed in a two-vehicle crash. The other driver, 32-year-old Jason Kwolek of Pawtucket, was charged with drunk driving motor vehicle homicide, manslaughter, OUI, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and speeding. His case has not gone to trial.

287 Washington is listed twice. #1 & #7. Is this an error or what was reported from the APD?

It is interesting to note that the top 4 intersections, 79 accidents all have happened at intersections with light signals and delayed lights to allow for vehicles to turn left unimpeeded from on coming cross traffic.
Wonder if the data reveals how many accidents involved vehicles turning left and not yielding to oncoming cross traffic after the green arrow has expired?
