State Rep. Heroux to Speak on Gun Violence
The Attleboro representative will be among the speakers at an event Monday in Foxborough.
Attleboro state Rep. Paul Heroux and other government officials will speak at a gun violence discussion Monday in Foxborough. Hosted by the Foxborough Democratic Town Committee, the session will begin at 7 p.m. at the Foxborough Public Safety Building, which is located at 8 Chestnut St.
Among the speakers will be state Rep. David Linsky (D-Natick), who is the sponsor of a bill that calls for further regulations on the licensing, sale and possession of firearms and increasing the tax on the sale of firearms and ammunition. This bill has been assigned to the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, chaired by Sen. James Timilty, whose district includes Attleboro.
The event is open to the public.

As a teacher and gun owner it upsets me to see this much time wasted on this issue. The President and Vice President as well as many others admit that laws will not solve the problem. More laws will not save lives. Criminals are criminals because they do not follow laws. I see children everyday that suffer from physical and emotional problems. Why are we not taking about how we can save the next generation and not just taking away the rights of law-abiding citizens. My son asked me if he would some day have my guns. I told him as my father told me "Make good choices and stay out of trouble and they will all be yours." Growing up in New Bedford there was a lot of trouble I could have gotten into. I wanted to be like my dad. I wanted to have the right to own a firearm. I became a constable like him and later went on to college and became a teacher. Lets try to solve some of the issues our children and fellow Americans are facing and not give good citizens another problem to worry about. Get angry about the right things make change where it is needed. Don't attack the 2nd Amendment because you see a opportunity.

Exactly Jay! I'm so glad I'm not alone. I often feel like most people here in Massachusetts are content to let any gun restriction slide. This state is full of people looking to throw away their rights. Once you get rid of the 2nd, there's no way we can enforce our right to keep any of the others. I don't understand how people think that "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" is a debatable quote. There are nearly 85,000,000 firearms owners in this nation, and they killed NO ONE today. Our govt. needs to stop attacking the 85 million and start going after the people who have illegal firearms (I have never, not once, seen a kid in a gang go buy a gun at a registered location. Go after that kid, not me.)

We already have too much legislation in this state on firearms, what we need is start cutting laws so law abiding citizens can protect themselves and their homes as they see fit. Laws only restrict those willing to follow them. Criminals will then be armed and dangerous leaving the general public in peril. If Massachusetts keeps this up I will seriously consider moving to Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine where they understand the concept that armed law abiding citizens makes for a safer state.
