Update: South Attleboro Jewelry Store Robbed; Police Searching for Male Suspect
A jewelry store at the corner of May Street and Washington Street was robbed Thursday night.
Attleboro Police are investigating an unarmed robbery at a South Attleboro jewelry store that took place just after 8 p.m. Thursday night.
The robbery occurred at Northeast Diamond and Casting, located on Washington Street in Attleboro, according to Attleboro Lt. James Keane said.
Police are looking for a white man between the ages of 20 and 30, 5' 11'' , approximately 200 pounds with sideburns and a shadowy beard who was wearing a gray hooded type sweatshirt with a white T-shirt underneath. The man was wearing a light gray Red Sox baseball cap with a white "B" on the front of it.
"Upon arrival, the officers learned that a male had entered the store and made inquiry about a particular piece of jewelry," Attleboro Det. Sgt. Art Brillon said. "As the clerk was displaying the item, the suspect grabbed it from him and fled the store. The male was last seen running across May Street toward the Mayfair Plaza which is located south of the store."
At the same time, a two-toned (red on top and gray on bottom) Jeep Grand Cherokee was seen fleeing the plaza at a high rate of speed onto Washington Street and went southbound, according to Brillon. "It is not know for certain if that vehicle is involved," Brillon said.
The Jeep may have had out of state registration plates, possibly Delaware.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the fleeing vehicle is asked to contact Attleboro Police Detectives at 508-222-1259.
There is video tape of the robbery, but it has not been released yet by police.
