SOUND OFF: Attleboro High's Next Football Coach

Who should the school hire to replace Kevin Deschenes?

After 12 years as head coach of the Attleboro High School football team, Kevin Deschenes resigned last week. The decision came a week after the final game of a disappointing season in which the team started 4-0 and finished 4-7. Who do you think should replace him?

Write in the comments section below who you think should be the next coach of the Blue Bombardiers football team. If you don't have a specific person in mind, tell us what kind of person the school should select.

Billy Reynolds!
Has coached at the College Level as an assistant, understand the nuances of the game.
Has Coached Youth Football (South Attleboro Whitehawks) for a Decade, has won League Championships at the youth level.
Has attended both North Attleboro and Attleboro High School and understands what it takes to be a coach for Attleboro. He is vested in the community and has tremendous dedication to the kids.
Excels at Player Development and his lessons extend beyond the football field.
I hope Mr. Houle considers him.

Scott Wilkins. A great motivator and proven winner at the Pop Warner level. Has coached a lot of kids on the current team.

Interesting reading Henry. Lots of unanswered questions in that article. Attleboro has an opportunity to pick someone with great expierence on and off the field. Its not a good time to take on what others have found to be "not a good fit" for whatever reason!!! Choose wise Mr. Houle!

I believe Scott Wilkins is a great choice. He has won with these kids before. He also knows most of the underclassmen. He has been around the pop Warner fields the last few years, so he already knows most of the new crop of kids that will play. I feel he will restore "blue pride" and a winning tradition to a program and city that deserves it. He is a great motivator and I believe he can keep a lot of kids from jumping to Bishop Feehan to play for him.

I vote Scott Wilkins, Coach Deshanes was a great the 3 years I had him for head coach. But Scott would make a great head coach and really would make an improvement

I think in order to have a good coach and not have favoritism to Pop Warner or Whitehawks the ONLY way is to go outside of the town. Really. Think about it. Attleboro has TWO team, and clearly they cannot work together. Someone mentioned a coach coaching at a college level. Where? What is the resume other than playing the same kids on the same line playing iron man football? Pop Warner put you in positions and has a fair playing time. Pop Warner is blue and white like the HS and until these football organizations WORK and CREATE ONE league it will forever be difficult in Attleboro to beat anyone.

On the youth football issue, both APW and Attleboro Whitehawks (AYFL) should merge to build and support AHS....Like brockton and east providence they have merged to build their towns football programs from youth to high school....For head coaching Scott Wilkins, Jeff Furtado, and Jimmy Weir can take AHS to the next level, even bring national attention to AHS for Fox Sports for high school sports & ESPN high school sports.......Style of offense needs to change as well since some kind of spread is at the high school & college level.....

The fact that Attleboro has two youth football programs has nothing to do with the lack of success at the high school level. Quality coaching is what will make the AHS football program more competitive. I believe the freshman staff is the most qualified group of coaches to achieve this status. For the last 6-7 years I have seen this staff take players from both APW and SAWH and merge them together with players who have never stepped on the grid iron and be successful. In some years these teams have gone undefeated. The decline in the programs competitveness has occured during the transition from the freshman team to the varsity level. What AHS needs is a full commitment from the top to the bottom and everyone involved. From the Principal to the Athletic Director to the Coaching Staffs at all levels right on down to the players. Whoever takes over this program will need to step up and develop a more interactive relationship with the City's two youth programs. Player development starts at the youth level and if there is little to no interaction between our high school and our youth programs we will never achieve the greatness that is long over due at AHS.

There are many supporting factors of why AHS Football is not successful currently......From certain pockets in the community, to the disorganized youth football programs (both APW & SAWH), and the Athletic Director & AHS Principal. There are 3 middle schools in the city and 2 youth footballs programs, and to top it off there is no unity what so ever no common respect or support for all or any programs. When you look at other neighboring communities the support system for youth and high school football is evident. With the new playoff structure for the state of Mass to now play there super bowl state championship games at Gillette Stadium for all high school levels or divisions. This should the perfect time to restructure rebuild , rebuild and reimage the face of AHS Football...The youth programs should merge in lieu of supporting the high school football program. Whoever the new Head Coach of AHS Football will be should have a sense of bringing national attention by way of college recruiters to AHS... When or IF there is real unity from all sides....AHS will not see any playoffs or spuerbowls for years to come...........

On another note the best sports squad for AHS for 5 years running, has been the Varisty Cheerleader squad, those young ladies have won many state championships and competed on a National level time and time again. The ladies who graduated went to univeristies and colleges for greater success...The coach is very firm in her approach but she gets results consistently. Maybe AHS Football can learn about commitment and having that winning attitude from them........
