Police were called late Sunday night to a home on Smith Street in Attleboro, where a man had been shot in the abdomen, various media reported. The man was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition is unknown.

The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. Police are searching for a suspect.

Various media are reporting that one large dog was removed from the home by Animal Control so that police could do an investigation. A source familiar with the situation told Attleboro Patch it was two dogs—an American bulldog and a pit bull. They are at the Attleboro Animal Shelter.

The shift commander at the Attleboro police station told Patch at 10:30 a.m. that no new information was available. He said more information could be available in the afternoon.

Tori, because many media personnel cannot help but find opportunity to show pit bull dogs in a negative light.
Sad, wrong, but true.

Hi Tori and Muriel: The breeds of the dogs were mentioned because those were the breeds. If they were two Havanese, I would have mentioned that as well. In journalism, we are supposed to be as specific as we can. I did not think of this as an "opportunity to show pit bull dogs in a negative light."
