Shamrock Teams Spring into Action

Bishop Feehan spring sports teams are ready to roll.

Spring is the air — finally — and with it comes the start of the outdoor sports season at

The Shamrock baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis and track teams have been champing at the bit to get going after the brutal winter and wet and cold start to spring.

A solid mix of seniors and juniors leads the baseball team, many of which are stepping up to assume starting roles.

Senior Paul DiMascio looks strong behind the plate, where he will catch left-hander Skip Flanagan, and right-handers Garrett Briggs and Gary Trottier. When they’re not pitching, Flanagan will play first base and Briggs will patrol left field.

“Skip has been with the varsity he was a sophomore,” Feehan coach Mark Cooke said. “Briggs is one of our captains and Trottier has a good fastball and curve.”

Junior Donovan Driscoll is at second, senior Sean Weiland is at short and senior Adam Markopoulous gets the nod at third and is a power-hitter at the plate. Aidan Farrow is the center-fielder and senior Chris Milne will share time in right with junior Mike Silvestri.

Nate Patch is a junior relief pitcher for the Shamrocks and junior Jeff La Rochelle will be a key contributor off the bench.

Softball team looks to rebuild

Coach Gary Warren enters his third season at the helm of the Feehan softball team on the heels of a school-best 20-4 record last season in which the Shamrocks won the Eastern Athletic Conference championship and Division 1 South finals appearance.

But it won’t be easy, as the Shamrocks lost all six of their starting infielders to graduation, according to Warren.

“The team will be young and inexperienced, but has a lot of athleticism,” Warren said. “We will probably go through some growing pains, but if we continue to work hard throughout the season, hopefully we will be playing in June (in the postseason).”

Feehan’s new-look infield will be led by sophomore Lydia Hanewich in the pitching circle, junior Shannon Robey behind the plate, junior Emma Porter and sophomore Kathlyn Shields at first base, and junior Danielle Arcese second base.

Senior co-captains Allie Ferreira and Molly Endler, and Tiffany Agostini are three-year starters for Warren, while freshmen Hayley Microulis, Katie Manis and Ann Kaczowka are expected to see regular time in the starting lineup.

Juniors Mary Katherine Runey and Carolyn Chlebek will see time in the outfield.

Girls’ Tennis will compete

Senior Colleen Scanlon will hold down the No. 1 spot at singles for the Shamrock and their coach, Rob Zimmer.

Junior Jacqui Hardenburgh and junior Bridgewater-Raynham transfer Allie Chabot are vying for the No. 2 singles spot, while sophomores Kayla Anghinetti and Becky Laliberte return to top doubles spot.

Other returning players expected to play include seniors Nadia Hashem, Mary Hodge and Nicole Ouellette, juniors Alex Desrochers and Karly Laliberte, and sophomores Katie McCoart and Ariana Grande.

Boys’ Tennis looks strong

Several players are return for coach Dustin Demers, whose team advanced to the Division 2 South final four last season.

Returning are Junior Matt Boland at No. 1 singles, junior Josh Loew at No. 2 singles, sophomore Matt Ustas at No. 3 singles, and senior Ryan Bizier at No. 1 doubles with Nick Atunes.

“We have a really deep team this year and hopefully the confidence we gained in the tournament last year can translate into an league title and beyond this year,” Demers said.

Girls’ Lacrosse young but talented

According to coach Nancy Anderson Semple, the Shamrocks will field a young team this season after graduating several key players from last year’s squad.

The team will be lead by senior co-captains Meg Leavey at center, Shelby Finan at attack-wing and Delaney McHugo at home.

Leavey a team leader in goals scored, while juniors Kelly Byrne and Julie Skaff will bolster the offense.

Also vying for starting positions are Ashley Sheehan, Rachel Pyne, Annya MacDonald, Shannon Leavey, Kerrin Gallagher, Madison Goldstein, Caroline Flynn, Mairead Cahill, MaryKate Cardon, Michaela Clow, Caroline Arnold, Katie Barrera, Hannah Bartucca, Stephanie Bickford, Casey Birkdale and Megan Anderson.

Boys’ Lacrosse has new coach

The Shamrocks kick-off their third year as a varsity sport under the leadership of new coach Andy Boylan.

Lsat season, Feehan gained its first-ever postseason bid, and this year will be led by seniors Mike Boylan at attack, O’Bryant McHale in the middle, Mike McDonald on defense and Jack Pettine in goal.

Track Teams very strong

The Feehan girls’ track and field team will begin its Division 3 East title defense behind senior Katie Cataldo in the hurdles, distance specialists Viviana Hanley, Katie Powell and Abby McNulty, and Danielle Ebzery in the triple jumps.

Meanwhile, sprinter Adam Barnes, triple jumper Garfield Douglas, and distance runners Henry Dodge and Evan Grandfield will lead the boys’ squad.
