Selectman Sagar Endorses Buckley

The special election to determine who will fill the Board of Selectmen seat vacated by Bill Rice is Monday.

Paul Buckley has the support of at least two sitting selectmen in his bid to join them on Seekonk's highest board. Bob McLintock donated to his campaign  and on Friday, Gary Sagar submitted a letter to Seekonk Patch encouraging residents to vote for Buckley.

Sagar wrote:

Please join me and vote for Paul Buckley in the special election September 24th for the Board of Selectmen. Paul's service to the town has spanned over many years which has prepared him to serve in the highest elected office in town government. "I feel it's my time," Paul has stated many times which he can claim from his many years of involvement in our community. Paul's resume includes the Personnel Board, Board of Assessors, Chairman of the Republican Town Committee, to name a few. As a home grown candidate, Paul's enthusiasm and vision matched with his character and integrity as displayed through his many years of distinguished service to our town, make him the clear best choice in this election. Please vote Paul Buckley on September 24th. Thank-you

Buckley is facing two other candidates—Nelson Almeida (whose name also appears on the ballot) and Jeffrey Starr Mararian (a write-in candidate). All voting will take place Monday at Seekonk High School from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

When Buckley is elected Monday we will have the 4 amigos. Mr Parker doesn't stand a chance now.

That's true. But either way, Parker will be the odd man out unless a super majority is needed for something... can't imagine what.

For a while we will also have the Chairman who is a member of the Housing Authority, another selectman who is a ZBA alternate (for life it would seem), another who is or would be on the Board of Health and with Buckley, someone who is an assessor or on that board. Whatever happened to the Town Meeting vote which asked that no selectman be a member of another town board? But we'll see how it all works out. It is what it is, as they all say.

Emcee, the attorney general's office is supposed to submit a ruling on the Town Meeting vote by Monday. Also, I believe Buckley will have to resign as an assessor if he is elected based on the town charter. I will research that further, and if I am wrong, I will make a correction.

Jonathan: You are absolutely correct. But please do the research and I bet that there will be no correction to your statement. Thank You

Emcee: Mr. C's appointment is State and not Town. The Seekonk Town Charter is incorrect and is in need of update. Also, when Mr. Buckley is elected, he will have to resign as an assessor. And last but least - Mr. Parker will be alone on the BOS, but it will not be for long. The agenda will be that Mr. Viera, Mr. Turner and Mr. Almeida will be candidates and one of them will be elected. Come on folks, don’t you watch TV 9 on Demand? The Old Boys Club and Seekonk Concern Citizens were counting (planning) on Mr. Almeida to win Monday's election. Then next election (which is just around the corner) Viera and Turner will be candidates and Mr. K will try to recover his old seat back as the Veteran's Agent. Got the picture? Now you know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. AMEN Thank You

The way I understand the Housing Authority, there is one State appointee (the chairman ?), the rest of the members are appointed by the town. Not a big deal if Cavaco doesn't run for re-election on the BOS.

Your bit of inside information is interesting and certainly within the realm of possibility. Viera, Turner and Almeida are on TV9 all the time.

Have a good day and keep us informed.
