See You Later, Alligator

Jacob ends his first year of preschool with a "snap."

Seems like just yesterday Jacob was born and yet here I am at his last day of preschool at . I am still trying to grasp where the time went and how this little baby I use to rock and sing to is up on a stage singing goodbye to all his friends for the summer.

At the beginning of the week I informed Jacob this would be his last week of school so he could have a summer break. The school was actually celebrating his, along with some of his other classmates, birthdays since they are born in the summer. The teacher informed me they would be doing an ice cream social. Ah, the benefits of being a summer baby.

When I picked Jacob up that day he had a huge smile on his face, along with a huge birthday crown. He also had a painted picture by one of his friends in his class. He told me they had a fun day celebrating their birthdays. I was so thankful Little Blessings remembered the summer birthdays and made the kids feel as important.

Finally, the last day approached. I took the boys to the beach the day before to give them a taste of what would be happening over the summer. We had a great day so it made it easier for Jacob to transition from school to summer. Jacob went happily into the classroom and I left to prepare and be back for their “see you later alligator” show.

I returned at the school with Ryan and my mom who happened to have the day off. I told her perfect timing since it was Jacob’s last day. I made sure that morning I didn’t tell him she was coming so it would be a nice surprise.

We all went into the church and took our seats. Before I knew it the classes were coming in on the stage. Dina, Little Blessings Director, started the show off with some nice words closing their year. Soon the kids began to sing. Honestly, it was the cutest show. They had their little alligator hats on and as preschool age kids are they were looking all around and waving at their families.

I have to say I was one of those moms and my eyes began to welt up. How could I resist I had just signed my son up for school and here I was watching them sing goodbye to all their friends. I would just like to press the "slow motion" button to slow things down a little longer. Yes, for all of those people that warned me they grow up too fast, I totally agree.

After a handful of songs the show was over. We were taken into the gym where the kids had some alligator cake and snacks. Ryan was happy to be a part of the cake. Once the boys were done we were off and grandma treated Jacob to a lunch at to toast his last day.

So, summer is officially here for our family and it was an end to a great school year. We will make the best of the summer with outdoor activities and time at the beach. Anything to slow down both my boys in preschool next year, then there will be more water works. Until then, enjoy your summer alligators.
