Pug Owner Charged with Animal Cruelty

The Attleboro woman allegedly failed to seek treatment for the dog whose abdomen had been cut from one to the other.

An Attleboro woman pleaded not guilty to a charge of animal cruelty last month after she was accused of failing to seek veterinary treatment for her pug whose abdomen had been cut from one end to the other.

The charge against 41-year-old Jennifer Kelly was filed by the nonprofit animal advocacy group MSPCA-Angell, which issued a press release about the case Friday. Phone calls to Kelly's home by Attleboro Patch were not answered.

Attleboro's animal control officer had taken possession of the dog named Jasabelle in September after Kelly's neighbor reported her belly was slashed and had been wrapped in a dirty bandage, according to the MSPCA's release.

"Multiple conversations with Kelly revealed that the dog was slashed in June—but because Kelly would not divulge additional information, further details about the incident remain unclear," the MSPCA's release states. "What is certain, however, is that the injured dog suffered without veterinary care—which is a violation of the state's animal cruelty law."

Jasabelle is living at Pug Rescue of New England where she is waiting to be adopted, according to the MSPCA.

Kelly is expected to return to court later this year for a pretrial hearing.

I'm not surprised. This woman treats her children the same way and has been reported to the authorities for the threatment of her children. She's also a welfare cheat and abuses the system by purchasing large DD coffee's multple times a day while crying poor mouth and getting free assistance where ever she goes.... A great example of where aid should go....

I agree with you 100% on that one!! This woman is a poor excuse for a human being!! I hope she gets everything she has coming to her. Hopefully the proper authorities will step in and take custody of her children next. She doesn't deserve to have them!! She treats them like animals, they live in filth and she is a fraud with the welfare system as well as the social security system. How she has fooled people this far is beyond me?? It must be because she plays the helpless victim all the time as well as the fact that she is somewhat mentally challenged!! I hope after everyone sees just what a disgrace she is, she will be so ashamed that she won't show her face in public again!!

This is so sad!!
I do have to say, at least you have Animal Crueelty laws in MA, and that authorities are WILLING to ENFORCE them. In AK no one helps the animals!! I live here, but still have a MA attitude about sweet furry friends....we have to speak UP for them!!

Sadly, sometimes the punishment doesn't follow through :( Yes, they may take the animal, which is great, but they don't always get the punishment they could get or that they deserve.....That's where it still fails :(

She doesn't deserve to have anything!!!! How could you let a poor dog suffer like that???!!! If you couldn't take care of it, you could have just dropped her off so she could have been taken care of!!!! I so DESPISE people like that!!!

Oh and I failed to mention this is the same woman that has flushed live hamsters down the toilet!! Can you say psycho!!! I have no doubt in my mind that she is guilty of cutting that dog!! It is only her and her 4 children in the home , so if she didn't do it then who the hell did?? I mean seriously here if she beats on her children without thinking twice, what's to stop her from abusing an innocent little dog??

I think we have to hold people responsible and not let them have animals again. Not joining in the venting here. Not sure where people get their information that they are citing.
Did you know that the SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) was founded long before the SPCC (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children)? I'm an animal rights person but always wonder about how we, as a society, saw the horrible cruelty towards animals before we saw the cruelty that children are subjected to.

People on any type of public assistance, welfare, food stamps, section 8, etc should not be allowed to have pets. If a person needs help to feed children, that's bad enough, using E.B.T. cards to buy dog food is wrong. Get a job, not a pet!

Now I can't agree with that one. Some people just don't have a choice. Not all of them abuse it. I agree that SOME do, but not all. Some people REALLY CAN'T WORK... I know I can't. I have a back injury from a car accident years ago. I'm not ABLE to work :( I also take very good care of my dogs...a Pug included. People should not abuse the system, but it should be there for the people that REALLY need it.....

Paul.....That would affect their "Civil Liberties"! I think WElfare should be very limited!! I also feel as though they should not be able to reproduce unnless they have found a way to support additional dependents!
My own mom worked at Welfare....and would be so upset....as in the 70's women would come in with all the gold chains, in the 80's they all had the acrylic nails....in the 90'2 they would walk in talking on theur cellphones, and hold up that acrylic nail to motion to her to wait....she would feel UN-GLUED!
I think this poor world is spinning backwards!

Animal abuse needs to have serious consequences. Laws need to be changed to serious prison time for abusers.
