Power Fully Restored in Attleboro, Seekonk
National Grid completed the restoration before the end of Thursday.

Three days after Attleboro and Seekonk felt a portion of a super storm, power was fully restored to both communities by National Grid. The final customers were back online before the end of the day Thursday, according to the utility's website. More than 4,700 total customers, including more than half of those serviced in Seekonk, lost power during or in the aftermath of the storm.

Hurricane Sandy caused numerous trees to fall and downed several power lines, sometimes in related incidents. Flooding was also reported. Other than a fire at a South Attleboro business that may have been due to the storm (it is under investigation), no serious damage was reported in either community. Attleboro and Seekonk were spared, while many other communities in nearby states were not.

I thought the reverse 911 system from the town of Seekonk was not used to its full potential given the nature of the storm. Was the first storm-related message about delay in trash pickup? Was there any announcement about a shelter for residents?

The first storm-related message was about the delay in trash pickup from the DPW. Many thanks for letting us know. The second message was after many of us had lost power. There was no message about a shelter for residents. If you have concerns, you should call the Selectmen's office and voice them.

I think an announcement for a shelter would have been more of a priority BEFORE the storm. The trash wasn't a proprity at all.

I agree, though having trash and plastic containers blowing up and down the street during a hurricane is not a great idea. The point was that the Department of Public Works took the initiative to get the word out to people well before the storm. People need to speak up if they have concerns. Call the Selectmen and offer your recommendations for better service. Consider yourself fortunate if you received a Reverse 911 call. We have seniors that don't know how to sign up. We also have people with bundled communication service who apparently lose phone service when the power goes out.
