Poll: White Lights or Multi-Colored?

With holiday lights appearing on lawns, houses, trees and bushes everywhere, let the debate begin.

Classic white? Or multi-colored green, red, blue and orange? Which lights suit your sense and sensibility?

A Pennsylvania town is embroiled in debate, after residents in one township decided to defy a homeowners' association ban on colored lights and hang the rule-breaking colored lights on their properties – at risk of $10-per-day fines.

Most governments make their own decisions on lights, with the vast majority choosing the classic, traditional white. But not tiny Warren, RI, where the lights of choice are bright and colorful. Warren flipped the switch on its downtown lights display two weekends ago, lighting up Main Street in brilliant hues of un-traditional colors.

What do you think? Do you prefer white lights or colored lights? Fun and festive? Or traditional and elegant?

When I was growing up, the topic of my minister's Christmas sermon year after year was "Christmas Is an Affair of the Heart." So whatever color light your heart shines.

I think white lights have their place (my shooting star wouldn't look good colored) and multi's add a Christmas spirit to the whole scene! Us older folks grew up with colored lights every Christmas on the Christmas tree Also, less is better, more becomes garish!

Doesn't matter, does it?. Prefer consistency. Hate blow-ups and plastic lighted lawn ornaments, but that's just my preference. Wish the LED lights threw a more pleasing light. I think they'll come around, but until they do, I'll continue to use my big screw-in multi colored lights on my tree, on the wreaths of my bigger windows and in the greens around the door. And the candles are red in all of my 40+ windows. Takes me back to the 60s!

My biggest gripe is the people who leave those horrible spiral trees and nasty icicle lights up year round. The people who like that stuff are generally the laziest when it comes to taking care of their property too as those decorations usually go along with vinyl siding and chain link fences :)

Tube vs Transistor.... Incandescant vs LED ;)

I love both LED and the big old screw in bulbs.

I LIKE candles in the window. AND....It saves energy,... don't you agree??...Isn't that better than a thousand lights outside which only amounts to...."How Do I Look"...?? Kinda like....MY Rolex is Bigger than your Rolex. Just sayin.

The lights that look like icicles hung on the roof line. Electric candles in the window. Merry Christmas

Colored lights. white is boring. Don't believe me? Ask any kid which he/she prefers.
And really, isn't it mainly for the kids....... of all ages? ;)
But really, if you prefer white, that's your prerogative........just don't go calling it a "holiday tree"

Hohoho
Merry Christmas to all

Let's stop the politically correct nonsense - I don't care what color the lights are
- they are not holiday lights

Ho Ho Ho,
There is nothing nonsensical about just trying to be polite and not leave people out. For the record they are called Fairy Lights in a lot of places....but it doesn't matter what they are called.

The only nonsense is when people get uptight about a word and victimize themselves. Get over yourself.

I like that each house is different. I wouldn't want to be told that I have to put up a specific kind of light to conform to the neighborhood.

I like them all with the exception of the 'Lazy Lights'. (The netting lights) Do lights or don't, but if you're going to do them, don't make it look like you had a hundred other things you'd rather be doing. (Hint, hint, Bristol Town Hall)
