A concerned Attleboro citizen recently reached out to Patch about needing to stand up when children are exposed to terrible sites included the ones featured by what she referred to as "fly-by-night" stores.
The resident said she was shocked at what she saw at a Spirit of Halloween shop in Attleboro. She saw the Zombie Babies exhibit, which consists of life-sized, bloody, baby dolls. The site was disturbing, she said.
"No one should be subjected to such a sight, least of all children looking for a Halloween costume," wrote the resident."There is no redeeming value to such a thing."
Her concern and that of others who have reached out to express their thoughts on Halloween costumes has led Patch to wonder. Are scary costumes "A okay" or should we "leave the gore at the store?"

I remember when Halloween used to be about wearing funny costumes. Now it's all about gore. I say we return to funny costumes. Maybe local neighborhoods could run contests to try to find the funniest costumes for the children in the neighborhood?

What I find to be "sacry" is that Halloween has become the second largest "retail holiday". Second only to Christmas in consumer spending.

Is it really second? Wow - I'm kinda shocked, although I do see a lot of stuff for halloween in the stores (costumes, candy, decorations, etc.)

Some of the stuff is far too gory. It's just plain evil.

My kids definitely appreciate holding my hand when we go out trick-or-treating! Some of the costumes out there scare even me!

I was thinking the same thing, "Isn't it supposed to be scary?"
It is the day of the dead afterall. As with all the holidays, the "fun stuff" has little to do with the original holiday. Christmas is an even better example. Somone, at some time, decided that the real meaning of our holidays was just no fun. Now holidays are all about "What's in it for me" (i.e. gifts, candy, days off of work, etc.).
