Officials Over the Border Hope to Put an End to the Odor

Odor from landfill may be stinking up Attleboro.

What's the big stink? So, Attleboro makes it into the Washington Post and for what? Because the smell of the Johnston landfill may possibly have made it to the 'Boro.

In the ongoing work to address odor problems at the Central Landfill, Rhode Island state Department of Environmental Management Director Janet Coit issued a letter to Rhode Island Recource Recovery Corporation on Dec. 9 that outlines the agency's expectations for work being done by RIRRC.

In the letter, Coit wrote that a new "flare" for burning methane captured from the landfill was scheduled to be operational Monday, and that a review of the ongoing work to address the odor problems is expected to be completed by today.

You guys are probably getting that rotten egg smell from pond view in east providence. The smell has been horrible lately. Hundreds here have complained about it here and the recent wind direction would deliver it right to you.

We live in Cumberland and we smell the odor from the landfill daily. I drive through the area to work every day so I now that this is the smell at our home. It is disgusting and it is no wonder why Rhode Island has the highest incidence of cancer. This company is producing sulfur dioxide that eminates through the air to over 13 cities and towns in our small state. It is time to put a stop to the stench!!
