Seekonk School Committee Appointments Made
David Mullen and David Abbott will serve through April.
With two unanimous votes, the Seekonk Board of Selectmen and School Committee on Wednesday night appointed David Mullen and David Abbott to fill vacant seats on the school committee.
The new committee members will finish the terms of Fran Creamer and David Quinn, who recently resigned because they are moving out of Seekonk. Both terms end in April.
Six of the seven applicants who had applied for the seats were drilled with questions from selectmen, school committee members and a resident. Mullen and Abbott were the only applicants who said they did not plan to run for election in April.

Mullen previously served on the board of selectmen. Abbott previously served on the school committee.
The other applicants were Shane Halajko, Don Kinniburgh, Bill Woods, Kyle Rose and Jeffrey Starr Mararian. Halajko did not attend the meeting.

I applaud the candidates that came forward to fill the vacancies on the school committee. They two gentlemen selected are qualified candidates and I am sure they will serve the town well. That being said I was appalled at the obnoxious behavior of Mr. Mararian…does he really expect people to take him seriously? He was supposed to be the interviewee and not the interviewer.

I thought Mr. Mararian was fun... a little comic relief is good for the soul. And, I actually think he'd make a good SC member, even a good BOS member. He's silly but he's not foolish. Impossible to intimidate.

Was there a party with open bar somewhere the rest of us didn't know about?

I think that it is great to have so many candidates to choose from for April. This is a position that is often neglected when you consider it's importance in the community.
Theatrics aside, Jeffery did mention several proposals and programs that he would like to discuss and I would encourage him to use the Patch to share them with the community.
As in the past I will do my best to keep the community informed of District issues during this temporary tenure.

It was a win-win night. David Mullen and you were two excellent choices for temps, and the town got to 'meet' the April candidates. Too often, we vote for the SC without really knowing who the candidates are. Debates are often too structured, when they do exist. Impromptu is better.

Emcee, you were there? You should have come over and said hello.

lol. I was not there... I watch from the comfort of my home.
My message was a tease to Amy. She wanted to know where the party with the open bar was.
