Excellent idea to discuss this now councilors!

Without action by the council, a dispensary could be allowed by right anywhere general business (GB) is currently zoned. Anything "allowed by right" can operate as long as all of the paperwork is in order and the proper inspections are met. Multiple sites throughout the city which are GB are too close to schools.

While I have not looked at it, it would seem likely that most daycare centers which are not home located are probably with a GB zone. In California, multiple dispensaries have turned into the medical marijuana equivalent of a coffee shop, if that to evolve locally, I would not want it near children.

The city of Attleboro may very well end up with a dispensary and the majority of voters support the concept, having a say as to where the business is located is not an attempt to sidestep the will of the voters or anti-business, it is simply good leadership.

Of course this needs discussion that is what the committee is for. Assign the new business to the appropriate committee and move on. All of the councilors LOVE to listen to themselves YAP YAP YAP... You will have your chance to speak when it comes out of committee! good lord.. I am not worried. This council can mess up a free lunch and this is no exception.

speaking of which, I loved that Cook said that no comment by council would be heard tonight at the meeting about the new athletic field at the high school! That couincil was invited by the SC to come and observe... priceless. I wonder how thats goning to go over. NONE of the council (if they even go) has ever seen a soap box they didnt want to stand on!!!

The Sun Chronicle today did a disservice by calling the dispensaries 'pot shops' in it's headline. I'm asking why, of all communities, does Attleboro have to dither (and probably grandstand) for six months?

It's okay for the two CCs!!! They won't be suffering unendurable nausea and pain for those 6 months. Six months should do it, to allow their power and control tactics to play out. The councilors look to be healthy -- but what about the suffering of those at the end of life and/or those with bowel disease who need marijuana for their pain and nausea? Six months is a long time when you're suffering.
I'm glad other communities don't feel the need for this rigamarole. Are those local people who need marijuana supposed to skulk around? Where's their human dignity while they wait. Attleboro needs to stop this nonsense and allow this voter-supported measure to go through without impediment.

Why do we have to put a time limit on this? Why dont we buckle down and get to work so that when the state health department is ready to roll it out, so is Attleboro?

On second thought, how will the CC make determinations on this issue when we dont know what the state will be implementing after April 1?

I did see a PBS program on all the troubles California is having with marijuana and medical marijuana being a ruse for taking it over the border to other states. Lots of money in growing/selling marijuana illegally. There needs to be care in implementing this, due diligence. But still the State and the City should be able to manage the regulations without any long delay. The City manages businesses like the pawn shop in Attleboro and make sure they do everything legally. Similar to selling alcohol--you can't sell it to minors. So it's not entirely new territory.

A moratorium is a stalling tactic. Attleboro will miss out on tax revenue.
Councilors need to get to work on this now. Study Rhode Island laws for research.
I don't see any correlation between a dispensary and school zones. A prescription is a prescription. Even now you have to show a drivers license and sign for certain prescriptions. More than likely there will be a requirement for a person to be 21 years of age or older to receive medical marijuana, show ID and sign for it just like prescribed narcotics.

There should be lots of money in growing marijuana legally. I envision a sales tax, a city property tax and personal property tax.

Attleboro Internal Medicine on Emory Street (Next door to Attleboro Visiting Nurse) is closing in January. A good location for a "POT SHOP".

US patent number 6630507 is the US governments patent on marijuana which companies pay a royalty fee to make cannabis based medicine.......

This is why the government doesnt want marijuana shops and legalization it cuts into thier profits......

Towns have 2 options

Option one: allow one dispensary

Option two: ban all dispensaries and allow and unlimited unknown amount of grow houses.......

Option two doesnt get a lot acknowledgement from law enforcement (except walpole) or town electmen......

They seem to believe by banning the dispensaries they are stoping medical marijuana in thier town.......all they are really doing is telling medical cannabis users......do it like everyone else and by on the black market.......but what really happens is.......people will go the DPH and say hey the banned dispensaries in my town can i get a home grow permit........sure can and dont forget that your local police department and town board dont need to know a thing about it......

So those are the towns only otions

the police found my neighbor who kept his basement lights on day and night... with heat detectors, it's not hard to find

A moratorium makes no sense. I think Councilor Weydt is on the right track to at least find the appropriate location. I heard Councilor Weydt stated publicly that he voted in favor of question 3 ! Can anyone confirm this?
