Former Attleboro High School soccer star Geoff Cameron has a chance to compete for the United States in World Cup qualifying matches this summer. The 26-year-old was one of 11 men invited on Sunday to join the team's other 16 players at the training facility in Orlando, Fla.

Cameron, who is a center back for Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo, will compete for a spot on the national team's 23-man roster, which will be determined by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann on Friday. 

"Geoff Cameron is a guy that is really knocking at the door, with a very strong January camp [for the national team], but also very strong performances for Houston," said Klinsmann in a statement that appears on the national team's website.

Born in Attleboro, Cameron played soccer for Attleboro High and Providence Country Day School as well as West Virginia University and the University of Rhode Island. The Dynamo selected him in the third round of the 2008 MLS draft.  

The national team will play this summer in friendlies against Scotland, Brazil and Canada before competing in World Cup qualifying matches against Antigua and Barbuda in this country and overseas against Guatemala.
