Heroux Considers State House Run

The Democrat takes the first step toward a possible attempt to unseat Rep. George T. Ross.

A week after , Attleboro Democrat Paul Heroux announced he might run for the 2nd Bristol District seat in the state House of Representatives.

Heroux, 35, filed with the state so that he could form an exploratory committee. Fellow Democrat Steve Kane is already in the contest. Republican George T. Ross, the current representative, is running for a second term.

"I understand the incumbent state rep is very popular and well liked, and someone who has a lot of support," wrote Heroux, a public consultant and public policy commentator, in an email to Attleboro-Seekonk Patch. "However, public service is not about the people who serve, it is about the people who would be served."

Heroux wrote that he had originally wanted to run for this seat, but turned his attention to a congressional run when longtime Rep. Barney Frank decided not to seek another term. Heroux dropped out of the congressional race last week because he did not believe he had the resources to compete in what he called the "campaign-industrial complex."

The Democrat admitted he would have been a long shot in the congressional race, and he wrote to Attleboro-Seekonk Patch that he believes he would be an underdog in the state representative competition.

"I am still an underdog in this race because there is an incumbent and because that incumbent is very well liked," Heroux wrote.
