Denlea Is First Official Council Candidate

The councilor is seeking a second term as the representative of Ward 5.

City Councilor Jeremy Denlea has taken care of business early to get his name on the ballot for Attleboro's fall election. The Ward 5 representative became the first official candidate Friday when he returned his nomination papers to City Hall with the required number of signatures, which were certified by the Election's Department.

Denlea is seeking a second term as the Ward 5 councilor. In an email to Attleboro Patch, he wrote he was proud of contributing to several city government accomplishments during his first term.

"Working with the city administration and fellow councilors to help curtail overly enthusiastic parking enforcement officers and to approve bonds for a new animal shelter and a new AHS track and field facility are accomplishments that the city can be proud of," Denlea wrote.

Denlea ousted incumbent Duff White in the November 2011 election. He also faced former Councilor Jerry Chase two months earlier in the preliminary election. As of Friday, nobody has pulled papers to run against Denlea in this year's contest. Potential competitors have until the end of July to get their names on the ballot.

"As the Ward 5 Councilor, I am offered a rare opportunity to make tangible changes in the lives of the residents whom I represent," Denlea wrote. "I am honored to serve the residents of Ward 5 and ask them for their continued support."

I would never vote for this arrogant man. He's a bully. He treats the public that come before his committee for license rudely.

Jeremy, your work, dedication, enthusiasm and passion has shined. You stayed committed to your goals and served the community well. It is not easy to talk the talk and walk the walk and your first term has shown the City of Attleboro you are a true councilor for the people. I wish you continued success as you take on the many challenges that face the city and provide valuable solutions!

What a joke. Remember he wanted to shut down the farmers market.
He voted to give away millions of dollars to the redevelopment.
His animal shelter vote looks to be a personal favor to his boyfriends.
His attendence record is probably the worst n the city council.

For the record to Wayne's comment, Jeremy and Steven Denlea are married.

I think it's terrific that Jeremy has decided to serve the City of Attleboro again! He is an asset to the community and apparently not appreciated for all of his hard work (@Wayne).
