Seekonk Selectmen Meet Tonight
Take a look at what’s going on today.
1. The Attleboro Public Library will host a program on Everything You Wanted to Know About Reverse Mortgages at 10 a.m.
2. The Attleboro Rotary Club will meet at Highland Country Club at 12:10 p.m.
3. The Seekonk Board of Selectmen will meet at 7 p.m. at Seekonk Town Hall. The agenda is attached to this article.
4. Today is Administrative Professionals' Day. If you didn't get a gift for the person who makes your workday run smoothly, you better pick something up on the way to the office. Maybe flowers? Don't forget to vote in this week's poll on the best local florist.
5. It is not going to be a pretty day, and it could get wet, according to the National Weather Service. Increasing clouds with a high near 57 and a 20 percent chance of rain after 2 p.m. are predicted for the daytime. The west wind could reach 13 mph, with gusts possibly hitting 30 mph. At night, there is a 20 percent chance of rain after 9 p.m. It is expected to be mostly cloudy in the early hours, and gradually become mostly clear. The predicted low is 38.

The senior center waited 15yrs for a 2.5 million dollar project, the south end fire station should wait that long as well. I know all the fire heros are going to say we are not safe, says you. I once wanted to be a fireman, also not true. 3 million for a south end station is way too much, fix up the old one.

Paul: Five years ago, I learned that the town had spent $50,000 on a study to determine fire protection needs in Seekonk. The conclusion was that we needed two fire stations. Then there was the push for the public safety complex at Peck Street, and now we need three fire stations. By the way, it's inaccurate to assume that all the firefighters supported the decision to go this route. They didn't. Furthermore, some of the strongest advocates for a new senior center are members of the Seekonk Fire Department.

Paul with a lowercase P, thank you for sharing your view. Any particular reason you chose to post it on this article?

Because the Selectmen will be talking about where all the millions are going to come from tonight. Carol, so we all should support a new south end station because some of the strongest advocates for a new senior center are members of the SFD? I would hope that every member of the SFD voted yes for the senior center.

Carol, shame on any town that spends 50K for a study.

Especially when they get it wrong... Not long ago, I heard some official (fire chief?) say the SFD should move fire apparatus and personnel out of Peck Street and relocate them to each of the two satellites. This will bring us down to just two stations and one enormous police facility.

I didn't say anything about support or non-support of fire station in the south, north, or any other place. I was trying to respond to the statement about all the fire heroes saying we're not safe. At least some of them have been strong advocates of a new senior center and it's important to acknowledge that.

This mornings Sun Chronicle has an article about the SFD and the on going turmoil that has been going on for years. This is why people don't want to give the fire dept any more money. Every month some fireman is complaining about something. We hire new ones they get busted selling dope. They pass the boot at a busy intersection for charity and a fireman steals the funds. A few bad apples or a bunch of spoiled brats?

Something's wrong with the fruit in this town. Bad apples. Sour grapes. Try the oranges or pears.
