'Bearded Bandit' Possibly Caught
The man was living with his girlfriend and a 3-year-old child at the Motel 6 in Seekonk.

Authorities believe they have caught the "Bearded Bandit," a suspect accused in a string of recent bank robberies, including one in Seekonk.
Following up on a lead, authorities apprehended a man staying at the Motel 6 in Seekonk, according to East Bay Newspapers.
The man's girlfriend and a 3-year-old child were living in the room with him, East Bay Newspapers reported. Authorities believe his beard was a diguise to conceal his identity because they found a fake beard among the man's belongings, according to the article.
The man's name has not been released.

Very sad, but thought-provoking in relation to the Presidential campaign? A very enterprising young man who seems to have created a job for himself in a depressed economy, apparently did not view himself as a victim, and was not dependent upon government programs. But most certainly he will be dependent upon government programs if convicted and sentenced. Meanwhile, although he probably did not pay income taxes, he likely did contribute to tax revenues through the motel tax, sales tax and perhaps meals tax. In this case, it would have been cheaper for the taxpayers if he and his girlfriend had gone to Seekonk Human Services for help.

Carol: I think you are assuming way too much.
Maybe the girlfriend and her daughter were homeless thus qualifying for aid and were living at Motel 6 on the taxpayer's dime. It does happen. We can speculate.
It will be interesting to learn who was paying for the room and how long they were living there.

Deb: I'm really not assuming anything about the guy. It was meant to be facetious. There are not enough well-paying jobs to keep people out of poverty, out of dependency upon government programs, and away from crime. For families to pay federal income taxes, we need to significantly raise minimum wages around the country. There are states with a minimum wage as low as 5.15 an hour. Some politicians are out of touch with reality.

There is always the chance that significantly raising the minimum wage will kill jobs. Especially since so many of these workers can be replaced by technology. We already see it happening. And when they are replaced, guess who will be supporting them?
I would hope that the states with the lower minimum wage also have a corresponding lower cost of living. There is always the possibility that the residents of the states with the lower minimum wage actually live more comfortably with less government subsidies than those with a higher minimum wage.
As for families paying income tax? IMO, that needs to be addressed with a big overhaul of the current federal income tax structure. To raise the minimum wage in an effort to meet the federal government demands for revenue is foolhardy, to say the least.

For the record, no state has a minimum wage lower than $7.25, which is the federal minimum wage.
