Attleboro, Newton Sexual Assaults May Have Same Suspect

Similar descriptions were given for the suspects in both cases.

Nearly two days after a reported sexual assaulted at knifepoint in Attleboro sparked a massive, but unsuccessful, manhunt, police say a man attempted to sexually assault a woman at gunpoint early Thursday morning in Newton. The two suspects may be the same man, CBS Boston reported.

CBS Boston reported:

The suspect in both cases was described as being a white man in his early twenties, around 5'8" tall and clean shaven. Attleboro police confirmed that the two departments are looking into whether there might be a connection.

The attempted assault was reported at the Crowne Plaza Hotel  garage in Newton, CBS reported. A police lieutenant told CBS the woman was able to get back into her car and drive away after a man "made a demand of her, sexual in nature" at approximately 12:30 a.m.

In the Attleboro case, a woman told police she had been walking in an alley near the Municipal Parking Garage on Stanford Street early Tuesday afternoon when she was confronted by a man with a knife. She said she was forced to drive to the parking lot of a business located on Starkey Avenue, where he sexually assaulted her.

If you have information on either case, including knowledge of a connection between the two, you should call Attleboro police at 508-222-1212 and/or Newton police at 617-796-2104.
