Almeida Resigns from Parks Board, Vows to Donate Selectmen Salary
The new selectman says his stipend will be divided among seniors, the animal shelter and veterans.
One day after being elected to the Board of Selectmen, Nelson Almeida on Tuesday resigned from his position on the Parks and Recreation Board. He also announced that he will donate his entire selectmen stipend (approximately $2,100 per year).
"I stand by my words," Almeida wrote in an email to the local media. "Selectmen should not sit on multiple boards period."
In the same email, Almeida announced he would donate his stipend evenly among town programs for seniors, the animal shelter and veterans. Donating the selectmen stipend is not unique in Seekonk. At least one other selectman does this, a source told Seekonk Patch.
