7 Apply for Seekonk School Committee Seats

Two people will be selected to fill vacant committee seats.

Two former school committee members, a former selectman and a TV talk show host are among the seven people who have applied to fill the two vacant seats on the Seekonk School Committee. A panel that includes the town's selectmen and school committee members will make the appointments at next week's Board of Selectmen meeting.

Those who submitted applications are former School Committee members David Abbott and Shane Halajko, former Selectman/Veterans Agent Don Kinniburgh, David Mullen, Bill Woods, Kyle Rose and Jeffrey Starr Mararian.

Letters of interest and talent bank forms submitted by the applicants are attached to this article.

The committee vacancies were created by the recent resignations of Fran Creamer and David Quinn, who are both moving out of Seekonk. Those selected to fill the vacancies will serve the remainder of Cream and Quinn's terms, which both expire in April.

These same two committee seats will be up for grabs in the April election. Mararian, who hosts a local talk show, and Woods have also pulled papers for that contest.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story only included the names of six applicants. The Seekonk school district mistakenly only released six names this morning.

Good news! I am sure any one would be capable. However, I think Dave Abbott would be most familiar with the issues facing this board.

We can only hope that the candidates chosen will be on merit and common sense...and not political as the children's future may depend on it...
