4 Candidates Remain for Seekonk Superintendent Job
The school committee is expected to select a leader for the school district in March.
Seekonk's superintendent search committee has reduced the number of candidates for the school district's top spot from 39 to four, School Committee Chair Mitch Vieira said this week. The district received 39 applications in November.
Vieira said the four candidates would be interviewed by the committee behind closed doors soon. The finalists in contention for the job will be selected following the interviews. Vieira said there could be as many as four finalists, but there would probably be fewer.
The finalists will be interviewed March 9 in public. The school committee is expected to appoint a superintendent March 16, Vieira said.
Seekonk has been without a school district superintendent since May 18 of last year, when Madeline Meyer resigned. No official reason was given for her sudden departure, but various sources say the teachers union planned to take a no-confidence vote on Meyer due to multiple allegations of plagiarism.
Interim Superintendent Arlene Bosco, the district's former head of pupil personnel services, has been in charge since Meyer's resignation. She did not respond to an email from Patch in November about whether she had applied for the superintendent post.

Is there a reason the interviews are behind closed doors? I don't know why this shouldn't be open to the public. This person will be responsible for our children as well as the "Public Schools" that we as taxpayers pay for.

Amy, It is my understanding from the article that once the School Committee has done their job of gathering finalists, the best candidates will be publicly interviewed on March 9th.

Maria is correct. The interview of the finalists will be done in public. This is common practice of how it is done in Massachusetts.

Thank you for the correction. I'm trying to do brain surgery and keep up with the patch at the same time!. :)
