Mission at St. John and St. Vincent de Paul Parishes
- Name: St. John and St. Vincent de Paul Parishes
- Occasion: Parish Mission
St. John the Evangelist and St. Vincent de Paul parishes in Attleboro will conduct Lenten Parish Missions from Sunday, March 17 through Thursday, March 21.
The Rev. Tom Hoar of St. Edmund's Enders Island Retreat Center in Mystic, Conn. will preach on "The Quest for Personal Holiness." Father Hoar has directed the Connecticut retreat center for the past 20 years following several years in Campus and Parish ministry. He is the founder of the St. Michael's Institute of Sacred Art and, most recently, has been involved in exploring the application of current technology to evangelization.
The Mission will take place at 7 p.m. each evening, Sunday through Wednesday, at St. John the Evangelist Church on North Main Street and each morning, Monday through Thursday, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Holy Ghost Church on Linden Street. While sponsored by the two parishes, the Mission is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Mass will be celebrated each morning and evening, except Sunday evening, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will also be available before each day's Mission.
Father Hoar will develop his theme—The Quest for Personal Holiness—around the topics of Reconciliation, Virtue, The Cross and Prayer.
"Personal Holiness is at the center of all that we do to be better people," explained the Rev. Richard Wilson, pastor of the two parishes. "By focusing our Lenten reflection on personal holiness, we lay the foundation for stronger positive impact within our families, our workplaces and our community. I look forward to joining with our parishioners on this special part of our 2013 Lenten journey."
